GOVERNMENT IS IDLING on a potential $155.3 million in solar water heater sales, says the sales director for SUNPOWER, Henry Jordan.
He charged if Government paid more attention to the sector it would be able to provide more jobs, earn higher VAT revenue and National Insurance contributions, plus spend less on importing oil.
Jordan said presently there was no growth in the sector which declined by four per cent since 2010. Conversely, over the last five years his freight costs for raw materials from the United States through the Bridgetown Port had increased by 18.9 per cent, and local haulage costs were up by 8.2 per cent.
“[The sector] is just chugging along at whatever pace people can afford to spend on new systems and replacements of components,” the director said.
