SJPP courses to be expanded

THE SAMUEL JACKMAN Prescod Polytechnic (SJPP) is set to play an even more pivotal role in tertiary education.

Minister of Education Ronald Jones said too many people were applying to the Barbados Community College (BCC) and its PomMarine Hospitality Institute, far more than they could hope to accommodate.

“[Those high numbers] have been a challenge for a while. This year just about 5 000 people applied for BCC/PomMarine, and while those numbers will drop once the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination allocations are given, that does not mean the BCC would even be able to take 50 per cent of the available cohort,” he said.
