Farewell to Oistins’ loving legend

HUNDREDS turned out at the Christ Church Parish Church yesterday to say farewell to Evelyn “Granny” Walcott, whom Canon Peter Haynes described as “Oistins’ greatest treasure” and another mourner called “a passing icon”.

Haynes was but one of ten priests officiating at the funeral service for a woman who had indelibly touched all their lives and whose kindness and guidance they enjoyed while she was proprietress of the canteen at their alma mater, the Christ Church Boys’ Foundation School.

That Walcott’s footprint would not soon be forgotten wherever she trod demonstrating generosity, business acumen and a penchant for extending herself for the good of others, was evidenced by the make-up of mourners and people paying tribute. They came for all walks of life to pay their final respects.
