Captain Peter Short laid to rest

A WHO’S WHO OF CRICKET was in the congregation at St George Parish Church for the funeral service of former Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) president Captain Peter Desmond Short, who passed away last week at the age 89.

Captain Short was a powerful figure in the cricket fraternity for more than 50 years and, also serving as president of the West Indies Cricket Board.

Several former Test players, including National Hero Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Everton Weekes, Sir Wes Hall, Desmond Haynes, Charlie Griffith, Peter Lashley and current BCA president Joel Garner were present.

Short was a pillar at the famous Wanderers Club, having served as president from 1980 to 1988 and again from 1991 to 2007.

There were dozens of club members in the pews including renowned cricket journalist/commentator Tony Cozier and former captains Richard “Prof” Edwards and Stephen Farmer. (MK)
