North lights up

SPEIGHTSTOWN came alive on Saturday, shaking off the sleepy nature of the northern town.

The inaugural Speightstown Alive, conceptualised as a response to complaints that one of the north’s landmarks has gone dormant over the years, exploded into a day of rhythmic music, indigenous craft displays, depictions of old Speightstown, and the provision of local delicacies of all descriptions.

But the highlight was the massive crowd of both locals and visitors that descended on the quaint St Peter town. The all-day affair started about 10 a.m. and climaxed with a scintillating concert during the night.

Some of the island’s top or emerging entertainers thrilled the huge crowd that blanketed the area of the RBTT Bank, where a stage had been erected. Among those performing were Red Plastic Bag, Biggie Irie, Lil Rick, Peter Ram, Classic, Hypasounds, Don Trent, Kirk Brown, Naheem and Nakeem Wahid and Jamal Slocombe.
