THE GOVERNMENT will be asked to approve a cull of monkeys which are being blamed for destroying crops and causing heavy losses for farmers.
The Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) says the bounty on monkey tails should also be increased among measures aimed at controlling the population of the primates.
Chief executive officer of the BAS, James Paul, said yesterday: “They are causing a big problem. They are destroying a lot of crops and they are frustrating the efforts of persons to actually make a living for themselves …”
He said the BAS would appeal to Government to look at a selective slaughter of monkeys as was done in Britain and the United States when the wildlife population got out of control.
