THE TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO RED STEEL left the Barbados Trident flying at half mast last night, using a spirited 20-run victory to claim the Hero Caribbean Premier League T20 cricket title.

The Tridents turned a promising position into a straightforward defeat before a crowd of over 16 000 partisan fans at the Queen’s Park Oval on a placid pitch, with the Red Steel dethroning the defending champions.

Barbados started promisingly towards a target of 178 in 20 overs, with Dwayne Smith and Stephen Taylor motoring at more than ten runs an over in the power play, but eventually ended at 158 for four in their allotted 20. (BAW)
