AN IMPASSIONED PLEA for remembrance and a drinks number from a virgin palate were the winning songs in this year’s Scotiabank Junior Calypso Monarch competition.

It could not be a more fitting graduation for both Dynamo (below) and Ah-Dee-Lah, who ended four-year journeys in the 8-12 and 13-18 categories, respectively, in winner’s row at the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex on Saturday night. junior-monarch-dynamo

Dynamo finished in the top four throughout and Ah-Dee-Lah was first runner-up last year.

Dynamo did an impressive performance of Drinkers Anthem to take the 8-12 title. He beat defending champ Raanan into second, while Sarai finished third and Star Diamond was fourth.

Dynamo was also awarded the prize for Best Soca Song in that category. It was the first prize given for the night, and he would have gone back on stage with boosted confidence that he would be back to claim one of the top prizes. (YB)
