THE Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) is keeping a close eye on the situation at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in which retirement options were discussed this week with staffers 60 years and over.

However, general secretary Toni Moore indicated that the union has not been alerted that anyone is being forced into retirement at this stage.

“We have not received formal information from the QEH management but what we were assured was that the meeting arranged for Wednesday was not one to force people into retirement but to have a discussion with QEH staff regarding the options available to them having reached 60 from the point of view that they can volunteer to go,” Moore told the media yesterday evening.
