And Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I perceive that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. – Acts 10: 34 and 35
WHEN A PERSON in the Anglican Church is to be consecrated ordained as bishop, priest or deacon, the chief consecrator (the presiding bishop) usually puts some very important questions to the candidate.
One of the questions goes like this: “In order that we may know your mind and purpose, and that you may be strengthened in your ministry, you must answer the questions we now put to you.”
“Do you believe that God has called you to the office of bishop, priest or deacon?”
Answer: “I believe that God has called me.”
I think that the time has come when members of some of these top level organisations in Barbados, such as trade unions should be interviewed and a number of personal questions should be asked of those who offer themselves to be candidates in order to give us an intention of their purpose.
One such question that must be asked is that of their political views and if they would be offering themselves as a candidate for politics and how they feel about the two political parties in Barbados.
I am convinced that some of the executive members of these organisations do have many a hidden agenda and we the public should know about the agenda in advance, so that we can be better able to judge if the persons would be good leaders for the organisation.
Too often the public is given the impression that persons are neutral – which they are not. We know too well that if a motor car remains in neutral it will go nowhere.
At some point in time it has to be put in gear in order to travel, and some of these leaders will be neural just for a time. We have seen it in the past that some of those leaders of such organisations will hold Government up to ransom and as soon as that particular Government is changed they are given a Cabinet post in the new Government.
Come on. Let us be honest with ourselves and stop hiding behind these organisations and using them for our personal gain. By our fruits we will be known in due time.
