BARBADIAN HURDLER GREGGMAR SWIFT wanted to make a statement to the world before leaving South Korea for the Pan American Games in Toronto, Canada.
He did just that, winning the gold medal in the men’s 110 metre hurdles in 13.43 seconds.
It was Barbados’ first ever medal at the World University Games, and Swift executed an almost perfect race in the rain.
Anxiety gave way to elation as he crossed the finish line and then proudly stood on the podium, flanked by Russia’s silver medallist Konstantin Shabanov and Genta Musano of Japan.
Here, a proud Swift with his gold medal. (GP)
