Upping the ante

THE ISLAND is heading for a national shutdown next week.

And the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC) will find itself before the law courts – but not from its own making.

As the BIDC and the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) move further apart on the issue of the 13 forcibly retired workers, the NUPW is signalling it will not be backing down as it calls on its trump cards over the weekend.

Currently, the NUPW has pulled Sanitation Services Authority (SSA) workers from their jobs, leading to massive piles of uncollected garbage across the island and, in some cases, no burials at Government-run cemeteries.
