PUDDING & SOUSE: Here comes The Infiltrator

THE TALK ALL around The City this week has been about The Infiltrator.

This is a real life story based on developments in Bim – a story which, some are saying, is ready-made for a movie. Obviously the scenes would have to be shot all across Barbados.

The ideal cast for any such movie is readily available, with the executive director already identified by the sobriquet Woman In White.

In the opening scene there is a plot to seize power from the action man, whose pen name is The Quiet One. In the following sequence of this drama-thriller there is a move to get both the Patricians and Plebeians to move against the cool philosopher.

But despite the marching up and down and the deadlines for him to leave by chariot or train, nothing happens.

So after strategic sessions across the country, a great plan was devised to conquer through infiltration.

The woman in white now smiles to see her minions. Regardless of the names, whether short or tall, whether master or hewer, whether for the aged and old, whether over the sea and sand, whether micro, medium or large, these consuls are now in charge.

They are gathered near the Garrison coming from the House of Horatio.

Some talk of good ole days with the Dorcas League, some even in this day of metric measurements still talk about imperial gallons. One is still suggesting that the entire thing be done in Bollywood while yet another keeps mumbling “a crisis of confidence” which no one can interpret.

And to think only one objective is for the cause. Some of the consuls hope to become part of the Patricians within the next 27 months.

Man from the east is back

THE RESURGENCE of a man from the east this past week has been likened to Daniel, who grew up a slave in Babylon but eventually was promoted to various positions of authority, first under the flight commander, then the poker player, then the educator, then his true master, the butcher’s son.

He had influence and position. He had thrown in the towel and focused on the things of God.

He was known as a private man, to which the Virginia of Bathsheba can testify. So when he was asked to sign his name on a piece of paper stating the importance of declaring what was already known weeks ago, it was recognised that he is a man in need of rest. Not even the oily smells blowing across Packers could help him.

Boa Boa Clan holding on

MANY IN THE world of leisure are asking if a select few known as the Boa Boa Clan are going to hold on to control forever. Just like the constrictor from which it took its name, the Boa Boa Clan can easily slip in and out of the land without notice.

The clan has been around for a very long time. Indeed, many people no longer see them as anything other than a greedy old snake in the grass enjoying whatever exotic meals are available. For the time being it is Canadian salmon and cod while plans are on for attendance at a samba school next year.

The concern is that there is little to show from this clan for the wider benefit of those trying to better equal what the fellow Edwin so sweetly sings about.

There was a big, loud laugh when someone said everything should be term limits.

A fellow looking out from the airport caught the attention of a former teacher and two insurance men who said: “What foolishness! We have been responsible and we understand how to steer this ship. With few others we will continue flying whether it be a rejuvenated Pan Am, an Olympia or even a resuscitated Commonwealth.”
