THE GOVERNMENT of Barbados today signed a memorandum of understanding with UN Women – the United Nations organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women.

The MOU seeks to improve the administration of justice by strengthening the resources of the Royal Barbados Police Force and law courts to effectively respond to cases of violence against women.

It is also aimed at raising public awareness about the protection offered to individuals who face gender-based violence, including violence at home.

The signing at UN House this afternoon was witnessed by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who is in Barbados to attend the CARICOM Heads of Government conference. (TY)
