SHEMAR WEEKES is in the hands of God, but that does not absolve the Barbadian society of its responsibility to children.
In an impassioned sermon, priest-in-charge of St Patrick’s Anglican Church in Christ Church, Reverend Angela Phillips, asked the congregation attending the 12-year-old’s funeral whether they were guilty of keeping children from Jesus.
“Are we standing in the way of bringing them to Jesus? Does our behaviour or the way we manage our frustrations hinder them? Yes, the church must play a part, but each one of us has responsibility for the nation’s children. So we must look out around our neighbourhoods and see what we can do to help our children, and I am not talking about sending them to Welfare,” she said.
