FIREFIGHTERS BATTLED A RASH OF FIRES within the first 12 hours of yesterday.
The Barbados Fire Service (BFS) received its first call of a burning derelict car at 12:05 a.m. and what followed was a blitz of reports that included five grass fires.
Twenty-three minutes after responding to the burning car at Rendezvous, Christ Church, fire officers got a call for a fire in the backyard of a National Housing Unit in Deacons Farm, St Michael.
Police are investigating that incident in which it appears that someone attempted to burn the rubbish from the unit, which is under repair, in order to get the discarded copper. Residents managed to contain the fire to the yard and only pvc pipes were damaged. (AC)
