BARBADOS’ ONLY LOCALLY-OWNED discount shopping club, ShopSmart, is headed to Speightstown with its newest store.
Operations manager Mark Niles confirmed to the DAILY NATION that the company had been preparing a property on Church Street – the former Rollock store building – for just over a month, and by mid-August the fourth ShopSmart Express will begin serving customers.
The project will bring an undisclosed number of new permanent jobs to the north, Niles said. He added it will see a much larger store than exists at any of the other three locations at Worthing in Christ Church and Brittons Hill and Haggatt Hall, St Michael.
While Niles would not confirm it, sources said the new Express store, unlike the other three, would feature a number of big-ticket items rather than just the “supermarket-type” items. (RRM)
