AS THE COUNTRY waits to see when Combermere School will return to its Waterford, St Michael home, there is news of at least five diagnoses of a terminal illness and a subsequent death.
And while principal Vere Parris has confirmed knowledge of cancer cases amongst his staff and students to the SUNDAY SUN, he is steering clear of making a link between the cancers and the environmental issues which forced the temporary closure of the school.
“Of course I’m aware of the diagnoses, that doesn’t attribute it to anything that happens at the school,” he said.
“That in itself cannot be an issue in this case, because that is something that can occur from all kinds of things including hereditary issues, so we shouldn’t jump to any kinds of conclusions.”
