THE CASE AGAINST Constable Everton Gittens is expected to get underway on August 11.

Under heavy police presence, Gittens appeared in District A Magistrates Court today before acting magistrate Alliston Seale. The usual barricades were in place.

Gittens arrived around 10:05 a.m., (wearing handcuffs) accompanied by two Prison Officers  and waited less than 15 minutes for the Magistrate to arrive. His case was the first to be heard.

He was again remanded to HMP Dodds and is expected to return to court in three months’ time. This came after Gittens consulted with his lawyers and waived the right to return in 28 days.

When they return to court on August 11, the prosecution expects to be able to proceed at that time.

Giitens has been charged in the murder of Selwyn Knight and recklessly engaging in conduct that put his son Junior Knight in danger of death or serious bodily harm and wounding Junior Knight with intent to maim, disfigure or disable. These offences allegedly took place on March 15 at Dash Road, St Michael.
