Barbadian driver Chris Ullyett has a new car and co-driver.

The overseas driver who returns home each year to contest Sol Rally Barbados will drive an ex-Watson Racing BMW M3 in SuperModified 12, with daughter Chantal, in her debut as co-driver, replacing his brother-in-law Derek Ince.

Ullyett said the Escort had not been rebuilt after last year’s off-course excursion, and since Ince usually does or coordinates most of the work, a change was necessary.

“So, the Watson’s four-door M3 is now an Ullyett’s M3. This is only intended as a temporary measure before the Escort is back, better than ever,” he said.

But the inclusion of Chantal Ullyett as a co-driver has not added to the number of females first announced. Paul Horton, entered in Modified 7 in a Ford Escort MkI from the Turks & Caicos islands has had to replace Carol Potter, who will no longer make the trip, with the experienced local co-driver Dwayne Forde.

Other changes in co-drivers involve Jamaica’s Kyle Gregg, who will now have Michael Worme sitting in his Group N Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX, and Chris Williams, entered in M6 in a Ford Fiesta, will be partnered by Reuben Nelson.

The provisional entry list published last week shows further changes as David Brewster and Alex Kirton in the Innovative Security Solutions/Castrol/SRG Engineering Peugeot 205GTi, have fitted a 1.8 litre engine. They have moved from the Historic Class to Group B, while both Martin Atwell (SM12 BMW M3) and Stuart Maloney (SM10 Peugeot 306 Maxi) have withdrawn from the event as a result of overseas business commitments.

Sol Rally Barbados will be contested from May 29-31 and preceeded by LIME King of the Hill on May 24. It is organised and promoted by the Barbados Rally Club, with title sponsors the Sol Group and LIME.
