A LEADING Trinidad and Tobago banker today urged Barbados to implement a near 20-year old recommendation to have a People’s Initiative or referendum system.

Chairman of Republic Bank Limited Ronald Harford told people attending a luncheon  of the Barbados Employers’ Confederation at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre that the recommendation from the 1996-1998 Constitution Review Commission headed by Sir Henry Forde represented the type of constitutional reform desperately needed to further develop the country.

He said it would allow citizens to vote on some issues of economic significance, including Government’ procurement of goods and services. (TY)
