Six nurses per shift ‘is ideal’

NURSES IN BARBADOS continue to provide care with reduced numbers, but president of the Barbados Nurses’ Association (BNA) Blondelle Mullin is looking to the day when Government finances allow for more staff to be hired.

Speaking to the DAILY NATION after a service to mark the start of Nurses Week at the Collymore Rock Church of the Nazarene yesterday, Mullin said that currently, two nurses service a ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, and this was not ideal.

She said six per shift would suffice.

“If you don’t have money and the supplies to get the health care system to the standard that we expect, then it affects the delivery of adequate health care.” (YB)
