His psychological assessment is not yet ready and as a result self-confessed killer Demetrico Ricardo Layne was further remanded when he reappeared in the No. 4 Supreme Court.
Layne, of Grahams Alley, Nelson Street, The City, admitted to the non-capital murder of 44-year-old Jamaican Odith Antoinette Nicole Henriques, between July 30 and August 2, 2021.
He also pleaded guilty to the non-capital murder of Olivia Cecelia Carter on July 27, 2020.
Senior State Counsel Paul Prescod informed the court that while the pre-sentencing and psychiatric reports were ready, the psychological report was not.
Attorney Lesley Cargill-Straker then told the court Layne had said he had not yet seen the psychologist.
Justice Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell then adjourned the matter until September 25.
The court had heard deceased Olivia Carter was a mother of eight, had become addicted to cocaine and was living in a dilapidated house in Millyard Road, Brittons Hill.
A man was walking near the compound of an abandoned building on Collymore Rock, when he saw the naked body of a woman.
The body had ligature marks on the neck, a wound to the back of the head, as well as several injuries and abrasions. He called police.
Investigations led to Layne, who was a security guard assigned to the Ursuline Convent.
Layne, when interviewed, admitted he had met Carter when she begged him for something to eat.
He said he shared his food with her and the next night she returned and again asked for something to eat.
He said he had no food and gave her money. The woman then offered to perform oral sex on him.
He accepted and took her to the school.
Hand around neck
“I remember her biting me and I end up striking her and grabbing her the same time. At the time, my hand was around her neck and I was asking her ‘what was the reason for that’?” his statement to police said.
It continued: “After she had died, I just ask myself: ‘what did I just do?’” He bathed her body in the showers and then carried the body across the street and left it there.
He then went back to his guard duties, watched as she was found and then went to his second job.
The court further heard Jamaican prostitute Henriques met the selfconfessed murderer in July 2021, and they exchanged telephone numbers and arranged to have sex.
When they had finished, Layne left home to get her a drink.
When he returned, she was gone and so was money from his wallet and some toiletries.
A few days later, the sex worker returned to Layne’s house. They again had sex and, when the Jamaican demanded payment, Layne refused, saying she had stolen from him on the previous occasion.
This angered the prostitute, who armed herself with a knife and stabbed Layne on his hand.
Layne retaliated by hitting her in her head with a hammer.
When she fell on the bed, he choked her until she was dead. He then apologised to her body before “dozing off”.
He later dumped the body in the yard of an abandoned house where it was found by a passerby.
Police executed a search warrant at his house and found a bag containing female clothes.
When asked to account for it, the killer said the clothing belonged to a woman who “was coming back for them”.
A further search revealed a bloodied white shirt, which he explained by saying he had cut himself.
However, when interviewed, he confessed to killing the prostitute. (HLE)
