North winds of change

ST LUCY is taking on a whole new look – as far as its architecture goes.
As a happy MP Denis Kellman put it, the parish is finally taking flight in needed development. And the four major projects there now on stream will soon have St Lucy boasting some of the most exotic homes on the island.
At Flatfield, where groundwork for Oceanside Estates is already under way, owner Monica Peters said those taking up the new homes would have “a lovely view of the ocean and fresh breeze every day”.
Roadways have already been paved and two mini-roundabouts built for the development, which will have three phases. Phase 1, which is ready, will encompass 15 lots for sale on land between 11 214 square feet and 14 000 square feet at a cost of $21 per square foot.
Phase 2 will present 12 houses, and Phase 3, 12 others – to a total of 39 lots for sale. The three stages will cover 14 acres of land.
Located on the Connell Town bus route and just a stone’s throw from the Animal Flower Cave, the development has already sold one lot. Developer Peters revealed that “quite a few prospective buyers were in the process of bank negotiations”.
She noted too that Oceanside Estates was negotiating with two other contractors as option, since a few clients did not want to be bothered with building themselves.
Roadway too has been paved or North Point Village, also in Flatfield, but the WEEKEND NATION was unable to reach the developer for more information.
That project will feature 14 luxury ranch and two-storeyed homes.
Two other developments are under way near Grape Hall.
Friendly Hall Development offers “attractively designed two- and three-bedroom houses” being built by Apex Construction. Friendly Hall executive assistant Caroline Chase-Bretney said there would be 52 lots on 305 000 square feet, ranging from $125 000 for 5 662 square feet to $168 000 for 7 676 square feet.
She added that some lots had already been sold, but there were”quite a few left”.
“We only construct when we have a buyer; and so far we find the ones buying or interested are [those] who actually live in the St Lucy area, because many people do not know the beauty of St Lucy.”
Husbands Residential Development, which abuts and bounds Friendly Hall, is also offering 62 lots on 4 000 to 8 000 square feet each.
Managing director of S.P. Musson, Walter Short, said the development, started in 2008 on nine-and-a-quarter acres of land, had already sold most of its houses.
And in the next fortnight the Government breaks ground at the massive Nesfield/Pickerings development. The June 19 official ceremony will represent one more major housing project to the several across the northern parish of St Lucy.
