Josea Browne is a revenue and catering manager of the Mango Bay Group of companies.
Q: Are you where you’ve always wanted to be?A: Not at all. We all have plans and ideas about what we would want to do and quite honestly, everything that I had ever said I wasn’t going to do is exactly what I ended up doing. So a long time ago I decided that I would make the most of whatever opportunities presented themselves. What I can say, though, is that  have no regrets.Q: What is your biggest professional challenge?A: I tend to be very black-and-white and don’t see grey. It can appear harsh and unbending to some, but to me it’s about consistency, fairness and at times transparency. The biggest challenge has been trying to find the correct balance and, at times, compromising.Q: What is your biggest life challenge?A: Trying not to take myself too seriously. We miss so much of everything when we get caught up in all the little things. Q: When you look to the future, what do you see?A: Quite simply, happiness. Happiness in whatever I end up doing or wherever I end up being.Q: What is your favourite pastime?A: I love going to the beach, but when that  fails . . . watching TV.Q: What is your favourite meal?A: Pork and pie. There really is nothing like a well-seasoned, oven-baked pork chop with a cheesy macaroni pie!Q: On Saturday nights where are you likely to be?A: At the movies.Q: What upsets you the most?A: When people don’t take responsibility for their actions but prefer to cast the blame on others. We’re all human and we will all make mistakes. I think it shows the true strength of one’s character when you are able to say “I made a mistake” or “it was my fault”.Q: What is your guiding philosophy?A: Doing things halfway is a waste of time, since it might be the other half that counts.Q: If you had the chance to manage Barbados for a day, what would you do?A: Redirect major funding into the tourism industry. In this current economic climate we have to be very cognisant of what has been proven over time to work. In my opinion we need to focus our financial resources on the foundation elements that the industry has been built on.As the number one industry in this country, its success would facilitate a tremendous amount of “trickle down” throughout many other industries. However, on a more personal note, I would definitely have to make Grand Kadooment a two-day affair!
