THE BARBADOS CRICKET TEAM should be commended for reaching the finals of the inaugural West Indies T/20 series in Trinidad.
However, the management team has no one but themselves to blame for their defeat.
As usual the management team continues to defy logic and basic cricketing sense with the baffling inclusion and exclusion of players.
What justification can management make for having Kevin Stoute and Jason Hinds in the squad and not utilising their all-round ability?
What are the credentials that Larry Babb possesses to justify his selection ahead of these two players?
They got it all wrong for the finals as was evident in the selection of the final eleven and compounded matters further when they failed to reshuffle the batting order to allow Hinds, our most experienced batsman against spin, to bat ahead of Alcindor Holder and Dwayne Smith.
It is painfully obvious that Holder and Smith starting right in the Barbados line-up at the same time, both bat similarly, have more often than not failed to produce and Smith has become a liability.
Kevin Stoute could have replaced either of them to bat at four or five since he plays straighter, while Jason Hinds could have replaced Babb to add another bowling option with his spin.
However, true to form the management team persisted with the same predictable batting line-up that went onto post a meagre 134 runs, 20 runs too few, and the rest is now history.
The management team of Desmond Haynes, Ryan Hinds and the coaching staff should do the honourable thing and resign.
