Law Professor Andrew Burgess is now a Court of Appeal judge.
He was sworn in by Governor General Sir Clifford Husbands during a brief ceremony at Government House on Thursday morning.
The ceremony was witnessed by Professor Burgess’ wife, Sandra Osborne-Burgess, their son Anthony and a family friend, Ashley Willoughby.
Professor Burgess replaces Justice Frederick Waterman, who retired earlier this year.
Burgess is one of the longest serving deans at the University of the West Indies’ law faculty at Cave Hill in Barbados. He was also the first UWI law graduate to be appointed a professor and also serve as dean of the Faculty of Law. (TY)
