Mark your calendar for this… an interesting new but brief exhibition at the Main Guard, old Clock Tower building on the Garrison. Opens Thursday September 16 from 6.30 p.m. and features the work of the late Aubrey Cummins, vintage and completely new pieces, along with the photography of Shane Boodhoo and the art of Allison Bohne. Runs until Saturday the 18th.
Mark King is the talented guy with camera showing amazing stuff along with glamourous glitzy art of Alicia Alleyne in the There & Back show at the Bridgetown Gallery.
Mark King grew up between the United States and Barbados, holds a Masters in Fine Arts in photography from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. The photographs on display chronicle a summer’s travels through San Francisco, Chicago and Vancouver.
“I set out with a basic goal in mind,” Mark King relates, “The plan was to seek new experiences, reconnect with old friends, cultivate relationships, have a camera at the ready and keep a journal. I managed to do everything except keep that journal. The exhibition’s images are a mix of formal portraits, candids, street photography, daily scenes, the mundane, the tongue and cheek and loose narratives. It serves as my after-the-fact journal. Shown together, the show provides insight into my perspective as it relates to a varied experience.”
He adds, “I was selected for the ninth installment of the Cheaper Show, an international art exhibition held in the heart of Vancouver City. I figured that it would be a good idea to make an appearance and since Vancouver is so close to my old home of San Francisco I should stop by on my way north.”
There & Back continues at the Bridgetown Gallery, old James Fort Building, Hincks Street until September 17.
