GIBBONS BOGGS, Christ Church, was one of the farming areas hardest hit by the heavy rains of the past few days.
Chief executive officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul, said he would be revisiting the area tomorrow.
“If we can get some sun and get the water out of the fields, it will improve; but we need to find better solutions to the drainage problems in that area,” he said.
Paul, Member of Parliament for St Michael West-Central, told the SUNDAY SUN yesterday that his constituency also suffered from flooding, which he blamed on poor well maintenance.
Many of wells in the area, he said, had not been cleaned, and he would be pushing for their clearance.
Paul suggested a public education programme by the Drainage Unit and the Sanitation Service Authority would go a long way towards solving his constituency’s water woes.
“I really want to discuss a programme to make residents more aware of the need to dispose of their garbage properly. You would be amazed at the amount of garbage taken out of drains,” he said. (CA)
