Prime Minister Freundel Stuart officiated at his first Remembrance Day service this morning in National Heroes Square, Bridgetown, as this country remembered those who lost their lives in the two world wars.
Joining many other countries aroud the world the short inter-denominational service got under way at 8: a.m. with two minutes’ silence and the sounding of the Last Post. Governor-General, Sir Clifford Husbands, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Leader of the Opposition, Owen Arthur and members of the diplomatic corps, laid wreaths at the Cenotaph.
As is customary, there was a parade by armed units of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF), the Barbados Coast Guard, the band of the Royal Barbados Police Force and the Barbados Cadet Corps; as well as unarmed units of the Barbados Fire Service, the Barbados Prison Service, the Barbados Girl Guides Association, the band of the BDF, the St. John’s Ambulance Service, the Barbados Red Cross, the Barbados Boy Scouts Association and members of the Barbados Legion.
