The Prince Cave Hall located in the St Cecilia Barracks at the District “A” Police Complex was the venue for this year’s Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) annual Christmas Concert with the Royal Barbados Police Band.
Under the leadership of Deputy Director of Music, Superintendent Keith Ellis, the the ever popular band treated the packed hall was to several high class performances and solo acts.
Special appearances were made by Anthony Bernard who sang Ave Maria and Holy City.Band Apprentice 52 Tiffany Goddard was very well received with a rendition of Santa Baby arranged by Steve Sobers.
Highlights of the three-hour concert included the performance by the dynamic former Assistant Director of Music, Rudolph Holder, who was invited to conduct a piece in the final session.
Holder, who retired in 1988 after 43 years with the band, showed why he was regarded as one of the finest musical directors of his time with a masterful performance which earned him a standing ovation from the appreciative crowd. However, the act of the concert was the singing of the band’s director, Ellis, who showed his versatility when he sang You’re All I Want For Christmas which had the crowd begging for more.
He obliged by singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. (CH)
