It was not the start West Indies wanted at the 2011 Cricket World Cup.
The Caribbean side lost easily to South Africa by seven wickets after the batsmen failed to make a major impact at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi, India, yesterday.
From a position of 190 for five after 40 overs, West Indies would have been eying a total of around 260, but they declined significantly in the expected happy hour and were limited to 222 in 47.3 overs.South Africa lost two early wickets, but won on a canter with 43 balls to spare.
Here, West Indies’ problems begin with the dismissal of opener Chris Gayle to the third ball of the innings when he is caught at slip by Jacques Kallis off off-spinner Johan Botha when he attempts to play to leg.
