OUTSIDE THE PULPIT: Pure lawlessness

WHEN I READ last?Monday’s DAILY?NATION Front Page story Tyre Blow I could only ask myself, what is happening to my beloved country?
The article stated: “The tyres of more than 40 vehicles in several districts in The City were punctured and flattened late Saturday night and early yesterday morning by what residents suspect to be a group of thugs.”
With such a situation, there are a number of questions that must be asked by everybody. First of all, why was something like that done? What was the motive behind it??Was it done out of spite and hatred?
Is it what my grandmother would say, that “the devil finds work for idle hands”?
We cannot overlook what would have happened if the ownersof those vehicles had caught the culprits red-handed. I am sure that it would not have been a pleasant situation.
I do believe that it was done out of lawlessness. I don’t see how 40 people in any one district could be disliked or hated so much or could have done anything to warrant that type of action.
Whatever the reason, it is a very serious situation that we are facing. With so many vehicle owners with outside garages, that kind of vandalism is very frightening and must be nipped in the bud.
I wonder if those responsible for what took place realise how much pain they caused the car owners?
The pain, I am sure, is not only financial, but emotional as well. I’m sure it also caused great anxiety among residents.
I hope that when the culprits are caught that they will feel the full weight of the law.
People must learn to respect and protect the property of others for we must also be our brother’s and sister’s keeper.
We must stop this vandalism now and leave Barbados better than we found it.
