IT WAS CELEBRATION time in Mangrove Terrace, St Peter, for the family of 11-year-old Kerrisha Gibson.
The cause for elation was that the Gordon Greenidge Primary School student was among the top six achievers in the Barbados Secondary Schools Entrance Examination.
Speaking to the DAILY?NATION on Friday, Kerrisha, who scored 243.40 A, said she felt proud and excited, but did not expect to have done so well.
“I was really nervous during the exam; but I like maths,” she said.
Her score earned her a place at Queen’s College from September, something she had been dreaming of since she was younger.
As for her studying regime, Kerrisha said she did extra lessons, past papers and continually timed herself, but also enjoyed playing on her school’s netball team.
Her excited parents Kerr Gibson and Falene Willoughby-Gibson said they always expected Kerrisha to do well as she was “always on top” in school. As a reward, Willoughby-Gibson said she would be taking both Kerrisha and her younger sister Kerrica to Disney World.
Kerrisha had some words of advice for other children who would be taking the exam next year.
“Work hard, do your best and don’t let anyone deter you; then you will be successful. I’m happy my dream came true,” she said. (CA)
