Hundreds braved intermittent rains Thursday night to be at Ilaro Court for the annual Prime Minister’s Crop Over Reception.
Barbadians from the diaspora who came home for the festival, as well as several visitors mingled with diplomats, government officials, parish ambassadors, the King and Queen of the Crop, members of various local organisations and a host of other guests on the expansive lawns of the official residence of the Prime Minister where large tents dotted the landscape and the aroma of mouth-watering Bajan foods filled the air.
In a brief welcome, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart acknowledged the presence of King and Queen of the Crop Grantley Hurley and Judy Cumberbatch, congratulating the two as well as families and a school group celebrating reunions.
For many present it was a replay of the entertainment offered this Crop Over season, with Calypso Monarch Popsicle setting the stage alight with his winning Cornwell, while Party Monarch Red Plastic Bag’s performance of Once Upon a Wine got the Prime Minister dancing, much to the amusement of his guests.
Also performing were Edwin, Mikey and Junior Monarchs Carrie G and Sammy G. (GC)
