The Mecca of West Indies cricket, Kensington Oval, will be the venue where Barbados women will begin their campaign to improve on their fourth placing in 2010 and to capture the WICB Women’s 50-overs Tournament which bowls off this morning at ten.
Barbados will meet St Vincent & The Grenadines in their opening game, confident of repeating their runs-spree of 280 scored last year.
The likes of West Indies players, Shakera Selman, captain; Deandra Dottin and Pamela Lavine along with exciting talents such as Danielle Small, Reschell Griffith, Shaquana Quintyne, Charlene Taitt, the Knight twins Kycia and Kyshona, and arguably the two fastest bowlers in the competition Dawn-Marie Layne and Shamilia Connell, signal that Barbados are expected to perform outstandingly in this year’s tournament.
Coach Vasbert Drakes indicated that all of the players were match fit and ready to put on a convincing show for the Barbadian supporters. Yesterday, the team enjoyed a final pre-tournament training session at the Wanderers Ground in Dayrells Road.
The other games slated for this morning are: Jamaica vs Trinidad and Tobago at Banks, Guyana vs Grenada at the Desmond Haynes Oval and St Lucia vs Dominica at MTW at the Pine Basin.
