Young Bajan cyclist Jamol Eastmond swept all the major awards at the 2011 St Kitts and Nevis Independence Cycling Tour which ended last Monday.
Eastmond rode away with the top male cyclist, top youth cyclist and top overall cyclist titles in the three-stage event, held on Saturday and Monday in the Leeward twin islands.
The Team Aspire rider was first in the individual time trial in Nevis on Saturday, clocking 12:35 minutes as he left fellow juniors Assim Chapman (13:42) and Ishawn Jeffers (14:58) in his wake.
Eastmond was even faster than the top two seniors, Reggie Douglas (13:02) and James Weekes (13:23).
Later the same day, Eastmond won the 15-Kilometre criterium in St Kitts in a time of 28:36 minutes from Chapman (29:04) and Jeffers (33:24).
The road race, which was held in Nevis but was deferred to Monday because of adverse weather on Sunday, was a lot more competitive even though none of the junior riders from the twin-island hosts finished the gruelling event.
Eastmond and senior rider Weekes crossed the line together in one hour, 28.21 minutes with Douglas just behind in third place, clocking 1:28.22.
Eastmond had the best overall time of 2:09.32 hours, with Douglas (2:11.07) second and Greg Phillips (2:37.39) a distant third.
This performance follows Eastmond’s overall second place in the junior category at the National Cycling Tour of Anguilla the previous weekend.
