THE EAT HEALTHY and salt reduction campaigns are not having the desired effect, and “national scanning” to make people aware of their health status has been recommended.
President of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Barbados, Humphrey Metzgen, told the DAILY NATION yesterday he recommended people getting tested so they knew their status, while warning of a growing health problem.
“The problem that we face is growing in leaps and bounds and we need to reach and educate a much wider audience than we’re currently reaching,” he said. “And ultimately, we really need to move towards prevention.
“Currently we’re just barely dealing with the symptoms.” (YB)
