Regional manager of City and Guilds, Guy Hewitt, says Barbados must meet the vocational training needs of the many school-leavers whose academic performance falls below the expected academic standard.
Hewitt said that except for the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic and other similar institutions that were being overwhelmed, openings for appropriate training were limited.
“We need to know what industry wants, what skills and competencies are in demand and we need to supply that,” Hewitt said as he addressed a City and Guilds stakeholders’ briefing session at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel yesterday.
“We need to find a way to take people from entry level and move them to the highest professional level,” Hewitt added. (GC)
