This may not be the place to write about this, but I know that quite a lot of people read your column.
Christine, this is more than ten years now that I have been waiting to get a home through Government – one of the Government apartments.
I know that others have been waiting much longer than I have been waiting. Recently, a friend of mine who put in an application for a home earlier this year actually got an apartment at Country Road.
What must a person do to get a home? Another thing, Christine, why are these apartments so expensive? Most people who are seeking to get an apartment from Government work for about $1 000 per month or less.
These apartments are $650 for a two-bedroom and over $800 for a three-bedroom.
When a person has to pay his/her bills too, it is still hard.
Yes, I am waiting for a Government apartment, but like many others, even those rates are high.
Who exactly are Government officials building houses for these days? Certainly not the person who is working for between $150 and $250 a week! What can I do?

I certainly cannot tell you why you’ve had to wait so long for a home, and I must believe that in their planning, Government officials take many things into consideration, such as the salaries of those who apply and how the money will be paid, etc.
I also cannot determine the amount of money one must charge for a home.
Again, this may have to do with the amount of investment which has gone into the said home.
What I can say is that Government has been creating various houses and apartments for a wide cross-section of people.
If the present apartments are too high for you, then you may have to consider an older type Government apartment.
I also recommend that you revisit the National Housing Corporation and put your case once more to the authorities there. They should, and ought to be able to tell you why you have not yet been given an apartment.
