I want you to tell me what is happening in this island, Barbados.
Can you imagine, I was travelling on a Transport Board bus to Wanstead last Friday evening and the driver was sending text messages on his BlackBerry while driving?
It was the 6 p.m. Wanstead bus from The City.
He was not driving recklessly; but suppose something had happened that needed his full attention?
Was he aware of the many lives he had in his hands, including his? I did not say anything to him because he was not a child.
People who do not have to put up with this kind of behaviour every day should be praising God that they have their own transportation.
When it is not the crazy ZR drivers with music that is not fit for one’s ears, it’s this kind of behaviour.
May God help all of us who have to put up with this kind of abuse every day!

Dear Concerned Citizen,
This is a very serious matter which should be reported to officials at the Transport Board right away. It is true that the life of every passenger was at risk, not to mention the driver’s.
You have done the right thing by bringing this matter to the public’s attention. Maybe officials can check the schedules for that time and day and have a word with this driver.
Better yet, they should emphasize to all their drivers that sending texts, speaking on the telephone and driving at the same time are a bad mix.
I’m sure they are not the only guilty ones. Maybe a law needs to be passed prohibiting people from speaking on cellphones and sending texts while driving. Pulling over is an option.
