Hope for 10 fishermen

THE TEN BARBADIAN fishermen who were detained in Tobago exactly one week ago could be released as early as today, and be safely back home this weekend.
That’s the word from Trinidad and Tobago’s Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Roodal Moonilal, who sprung into action last night after he was asked by the WEEKEND NATION for an update on their situation.
Up to that point, Moonilal, who admittedly has been preoccupied with alleged death threats against the Trinidad’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad Bissessar, said he was neither aware of the plight of the Barbadian fishermen nor that the matter had been generating strong “emotive sentiment” here.
Six days after the arrest of the fishermen, Moonilal, standing in for Suruj Rambachan, who has been out of state for more than a week, also said he was not aware of any official communication between the governments of Barbados and Trinidad on the issue, or the recent appointment of Robert “Bobby” Morris as CARICOM Ambassador.
