St James North MP Rawle Eastmond is counting himself out of the upcoming nomination process in the constituency he has represented for two decades.
But sources say it may not be an indication that the veteran parliamentarian has decided to back out of the political race.
Eastmond served notice on December 28 in a brief letter to Sabrina Haynes, secretary of the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) St James North branch, that he would not have any part in the nomination.
“It has come to my attention that our branch, through its Executive, is definitely a party to a process by which an open nomination will be held shortly. Please be advised that I do not propose to be nominated by anyone or to tender my own proposal to be a candidate in the coming circumstances,” he wrote in the letter, a copy of which the WEEKEND NATION obtained.
