KINGSTON – A man who was reportedly caught trying to ship 81 pounds of ganja to Barbados hidden in a metal vault was remanded when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrates’ Court last Friday.
Carlton Henry was arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport on December 6 after he reportedly went to the cargo section to ship the item.
Police were reportedly alerted to the drugs by a sniffer dog and Henry was arrested and charged with possession of ganja, dealing in ganja, taking preparatory steps to export ganja and conspiracy to export ganja.
However, when Henry appeared before Resident Magistrate Lorna Shelly-Williams, he disputed the allegations.
The prosecution, however, told the court that Henry was pretending he had no knowledge about the drugs but he was found with JAM$62 000 (BDS$1 389), which is believed to be the payment for carrying out the transaction. He will return to court on February 1. (Jamaica Observer)
