ALL APPLICATIONS to the Town Planning Department for building in a specially mapped out zone around Arch Cot in Brittons Hill, St Michael, must now be accompanied by a geotechnical study.
Chief Town Planner Mark Cummins said yesterday this was “critical to the assessment and the decision-making process” of the department, in light of the 2007 Arch Cot Terrace apartment building collapse into a cave, claiming the lives of a family of five.
Meantime, Justin Jennings-Wray, whose company is one of the few here doing geotechnical investigations, has pointed out that such probes can cost from $20 000 to $100 000, depending on the sophistication involved.
Cummins told the SATURDAY?SUN? the requirement for the geotechnical study came out of a report prepared by a committee of technical experts set up following the tragedy.
