ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Hundreds of nationals led by Governor General Sir Carlyle Glean and Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, braved the inclement weather to bid a final farewell to the island’s sixth head of government, George Brizan, who died here late last month.
Brizan, 69, who served for four months in 1995 on the resignation of Nicholas Brathwaite, died on February 18 as a result of complications due to diabetes.
There were glowing tributes to the former historian, economist and author, with Prime Minister Thomas describing him as a very humanitarian being.
“He is a lost to us as people, he was a man who will always be remembered for his concern about people,” he said.
His body laid in state at the Parliament building for the past two days and he was buried at St George’s Top Cemetery on the outskirts of the capital. (CMC)
