Smith keeps Bajan hopes alive

Fifteen wickets fell for 269 runs as bowlers dominated the opening day of the Regional Four-Day match between Barbados and the Leeward Islands at Kensington Oval yesterday.
By the time play ended Barbados were closing in on first innings lead, reaching 134 for five in reply to a paltry 138 all out made by the Leewards.
Two men playing their first match of the season rescued the host country. Dashing Dwayne Smith with 67 in 63 balls, and Kyle Hope unbeaten on 26, put on 90 for the fifth wicket to prop up the brittle Barbados batting.
The close of play position reflected a recovery by the home team after a disastrous post-tea period in which Barbados lost three wickets for three runs.
