Twelve people escaped with their lives last night, when a route taxi and a car collided in Vauxhall, Christ Church, resulting in the car landing on its roof and the ZR on its side.
Nine adults and two children were aboard the ZR, which had just left the Kendall Hill junction, headed to Bridgetown, while 25-year-old Carl Henderson Sealy, of Cane Garden, St Thomas, was the sole occupant of the car, which was also heading to The City.
Dayne Harewood, 24, driver of the ZR, was close to his Second Avenue, Vauxhall residence when the accident occurred a short distance from the Globe Drive-In about 6:30 p.m. The Vauxhall Road became impassable as three ambulances, along with other emergency response personnel, converged on the scene.
Keisha Bayne, of Bourne’s Land, St George, appeared to be the most seriously injured, with the 29-year-old complaining of pain in the neck, legs and back. Other passengers suffered superficial bruises and scratches.
Police public relations officer Inspector David Welch reiterated the police’s concern about the number of accidents on the roads.
“We shall be stepping up our road safety campaign, and we shall continue our patrols, especially on the highway,” he added.
Last week there were three separate road fatalities in three days.
