Laconia top Pro-Am golf tourney

Laconia?Country Club captured the top spot in the Barbados Pro-Am Inaugural Tournament which was played from March 11 to 15 on the greens at Sandy Lane and Apes Hill.
President of the Barbados Tourism Authority, David Rice, did not attempt to conceal his pride over the success of the tournament which had attracted six teams, with six professionals and a host of supporting family members and golf fans.
In handing the champion cup to pro Todd Rollins and teammates, Mike Handrahan, Brian Battista and Tom Haughey, Rice indicated that the tournament would have booked 115 rooms at the Accra Beach Hotel and would have created an estimated economic impact of more than US$80 000 for Barbados.
Barbados will be hoping to exploit the benefits of staging this tournament as its organizing body, The Golf Connection, stages similar competitions throughout the world and it has amassed an active PGA Club Professional email database of more than 10 000 pros across the United States and Canada.
Second place went to Sharon Country Club, while Alpine Country Club took the third spot. Former president of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Alvin Jemmott, also presented some of the prizes at the closing ceremony which was attended by Barbados’ only living national hero,  Sir Garfield Sobers.
The other teams which took part were South Fork Country Club, Medallion Club No.1 and Medallion Club No.2.
