Two weeks?after REDjet announced the temporary suspension of all flights, a top official of the struggling Barbadian-based, low-cost carrier has sounded the official death knell.
“You can’t come back from here. Impossible!” said prominent businessman Ralph “Bizzy” Williams yesterday.
The company director was responding to news that effective March 20, Barbados had suspended REDjet’s air operators’ certificate (AOC) and that the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority (TTCAA) had followed suit in revoking its licence.
With these developments, Williams said REDjet’s fate was pretty much sealed, but he declined further comment on its loss-making position, except to say: “It’s a lot of money; I can tell you that.”
As for the fate of REDjet’s 90-odd staffers, Williams said that as far as he was aware, they would have been paid up to the end of February.
“I know they were paid at the end of February. I wrote the cheque,” he said, in the face of growing uncertainty over whether the company would be able to meet its March financial commitments, including those to employees and statutory agencies.
